Software Developer

Salary: £35,000 - 45,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer with strong Python skills, particularly for writing and maintaining data pipelines.
• We need someone who can solve complex problems and communicate clearly in written, verbal, and visual formats.
• We value team players who are self-motivated and able to work effectively both collaboratively and independently.
• We expect knowledge of modern software engineering best practices, including Agile development, automated testing, configuration management, and DevOps.
• We require the ability to manage and control changes across development, testing, and production environments with rigour and care.
• Desirable experience includes C# / .NET, particularly building libraries and command-line tools with .NET 8.0+.
• We value experience working with legacy codebases, strong documentation habits, and good pull request practices.
• We prefer experience with PostgreSQL and SQLite, including schema design, migrations, and basic performance tuning.
• We welcome experience with orchestration and data engineering tools such as Prefect, Celery, and RabbitMQ.
• We look for experience writing unit and basic integration tests and automating test runs in CI pipelines such as GitHub Actions.
• We value comfort using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, with careful validation and testing of generated code.
• We would like experience with REST APIs, microservices, event-driven services, and message-driven patterns.
• We prefer experience with Docker and deploying containerised applications.
• Nice-to-have experience includes GIS and point-cloud processing tools such as GDAL, PDAL, GeoPandas, Open3D, and LAS/LAZ/Raster/Vector handling.
• Nice-to-have experience also includes TypeScript/JavaScript for front-end dashboards and user interfaces.
• Familiarity with packaging and distributing software via NuGet and/or PyPI would be beneficial.
