Software Team Leader

Salary: £145,600 - 145,600 per year

Requirements:

• We require experience developing embedded software with C and C++.
• We require knowledge of Real Time Operating Systems.
• We require experience with Rhapsody UML or other model-driven development tools.
• We require experience testing software against requirements and ICDs on both host and target hardware.
• We require experience with IBM Engineering Work Management or Rational Tool Concert.
• Team leadership experience is beneficial.
• We require a proven can-do and flexible approach to solving technical problems.
• We require strong analytical and design ability, including review, critical analysis, and generating design documentation.
• We require the ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders, including SMEs, Systems Engineering, and Test and Validation.

Responsibilities:

• We lead a medium-sized team of software engineers to deliver our Missile Control Software.
• We drive the full software development lifecycle from requirements gathering through to deployment.
• We work closely with the Software Project Leader and stakeholders to define requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
• We assign tasks, coordinate team activities, and ensure deadlines and programme objectives are met.
• We identify and communicate technical risks and technical debt to the Software Project Leader.
• We facilitate communication and collaboration across the team and with cross-functional stakeholders.
• We ensure the team follows software development best practices, quality assurance processes, and coding standards.
• We identify and support process improvement and optimisation opportunities.
• We capture and report development metrics to the Software Project Leader and suggest improvements based on the data.

We are a world-class defence organisation recruiting a Software Team Leader for an initial 6-month contract based in Bristol. This is a full-time, on-site role with occasional work from home, offering 37 hours per week and overtime paid at time and a quarter for hours worked above 37. The role is inside IR35 and may continue beyond the initial contract, with a focus on delivering high-quality missile control software in a collaborative, iterative environment.
