Assurance Engineer

Salary: £60,000 - 80,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for a Senior or Principal Assurance Engineer to join our technology team.
• We want demonstrated experience, technical judgement, and strong quality of thinking.
• We are primarily interested in strong experience in at least one area relevant to the assurance or design of high-stakes systems.
• This may include safety engineering and safety cases, assurance cases and argument-based assurance, high-integrity or safety-critical software, AI verification/validation/testing/evaluation, system safety and hazard analysis, software or system architecture, human factors and human-machine teaming, cybersecurity and resilience, quantitative risk, reliability or formal methods, operational monitoring and change assurance, clinical safety or healthcare technology assurance, or another professional field involving difficult technical decisions with significant consequences.
• Direct experience of AI assurance is desirable but not essential.
• We want some exposure to AI or machine-learning systems, or the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly and engage credibly with specialists.
• We welcome candidates from sectors including defence, space, healthcare, nuclear, critical national infrastructure, aviation, automotive, rail, and industrial automation.
• You must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance as we can only accept Sole UK National candidates.

Responsibilities:

• We help our customers design, justify, and operate AI.
• We produce defensible technical outputs and connect assurance evidence to real decisions about system design, deployment, and operation.
• We lead technically demanding client work, either hands-on or by directing a project team.
• We lead the technical delivery of assurance work for clients.
• We develop assurance strategies and plans.
• We structure claims, arguments, and supporting evidence.
• We develop AI test and evaluation strategies.
• We define system requirements and design recommendations.
• We develop operational monitoring and change-assurance approaches.
• We review and challenge evidence produced by clients or suppliers.
• We produce reports that support senior technical and operational decisions.
• We work with clients as technical stakeholders.
• We share and defend proposed technical approaches.
• We lead technical discussions and contribute to workshops.
• We challenge client or supplier assumptions constructively.
• We build relationships while maintaining an independent technical position.
• We support and develop the wider team, including mentoring more junior engineers.
• We develop partnerships with universities, research organisations, and industry collaborators to advance R&D opportunities and drive innovation.
