Technical Consultant

Salary: £27,000 - 32,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for someone with a working grasp of Microsoft 365 and Windows, and the confidence to troubleshoot both.
• We need strong troubleshooting skills with a logical and methodical approach.
• We value strong written and verbal communication, including confidence dealing with business users on the phone and in person.
• We need someone who can manage multiple tasks and priorities at the same time.
• We want someone who can work effectively on their own initiative and as part of a team.
• We are looking for an avid interest in IT and technology, with a genuine willingness to learn.
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites are required.
• You must have the right to work in the UK.
• Two to four years in an IT support or service desk environment, ideally at second line, is preferred.
• MSP experience is a strong advantage.
• Working knowledge of Windows Server and core infrastructure concepts such as AD, DNS, DHCP and file services is preferred.
• Sound networking fundamentals, including switching, wireless, firewalls, VLANs and VPNs, are preferred.
• Experience with Intune or another MDM, Microsoft Defender, RMM platforms, backup and DR tooling, or common ticketing systems is desirable.
• Hyper-V, VMware or Azure experience is desirable.
• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, CompTIA A+, Network+ or Security+, or vendor networking certifications are desirable.
• Linux or macOS administration experience is desirable.
• Exposure to Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001 or similar frameworks is desirable.
• Scripting experience, particularly PowerShell, is desirable.
• VoIP telephony experience is desirable.

Responsibilities:

• We will have you handle incidents and service requests end to end, from first contact through to a documented resolution.
• We will have you support and troubleshoot Microsoft 365, Windows client and server, macOS, Linux, printing, networking and common business applications.
• We will have you support and troubleshoot mobile devices for business services, including Android and iOS.
• We will have you monitor and action alerting for server health, backups, security alerts and device status, escalating where needed.
• We will have you deliver small to medium projects such as server builds and migrations, Microsoft 365 tenant work, network refreshes, hardware rollouts and office moves.
• We will have you configure and maintain networking equipment including switches, firewalls, wireless, VLANs and VPNs.
• We will have you apply and maintain secure configurations across customer estates, including MFA, Conditional Access, device encryption, patching and endpoint protection.
• We will have you support Cyber Essentials and ISO 27001-aligned work, including evidence gathering and remediation.
• We will have you attend on-site customer visits for installations, deployments and troubleshooting.
• We will have you write and maintain clear documentation, runbooks and knowledge base articles.
• We will have you identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to the systems we use and the way we support our customers.

We are FIRST4TECH Ltd, an Exeter-based IT support and consultancy company working with a broad mix of small and medium businesses across the South West and beyond. We provide everything from day-to-day user support to server and network projects, cloud migrations and security work. This is a permanent, full-time Technical Consultant role based in our Exeter office with hybrid working after the initial office-based period. We offer a salary of £27,000–£32,000 per annum depending on experience, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, a workplace pension with employer contributions, funded training and certifications, mileage allowance for customer visits, a company laptop and mobile, and on-site parking.
