  • A degree in a software engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A strong software engineering background, significant hands-on development experience, and specialist depth in at least one technical area.
  • Hands-on macOS platform development, with proficiency in Swift, Objective-C, and/or C++, and experience building systems-level or endpoint security software.
  • Hands-on experience with macOS, including managing and developing launch daemons and launch agents, using unified logging, and developing XPC components.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience directing agentic AI development tools, such as Claude Code, including framing problems, challenging weak output, and critically reviewing generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability.
  • Experience with formal software development methodologies.
  • At least 2 years of commercial software engineering experience for the Software Development Engineer level; typically 5 or more years, including demonstrable technical leadership, for the Senior Software Development Engineer level.
  • Proactively learn new technologies and quickly build the skills the role requires.
  • Adapt well to change and thrive in multidisciplinary teams, maintaining performance and supporting others as priorities shift.
  • Communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, tailoring messages to different audiences and stakeholders.
  • Bring a strong engineering background and consistently deliver high-quality, robust, and maintainable solutions.
  • Nice to have: experience working with Qt, Apples System Extension framework (Endpoint Protection), Apples authorization system, or the sudo plugin framework.
  • Nice to have: knowledge and experience with the macOS kernel and Mandatory Access Control Framework (MACF).

  • Review functional and technical requirements to identify gaps and limitations, propose simplifications, and communicate ideas effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Take accountability for code quality, whether code is produced by agentic AI tools or fellow engineers, through rigorous reviews and pull-request feedback; ensure unit testing and departmental guidelines are met, and work with peers to establish guidelines where none exist.
  • Develop and improve build, deployment, and test automation within the team.
  • Help identify, prioritize, and resolve technical debt within the team.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure work items are well defined and understood, and that each sprint delivers value with quality.
  • Investigate and resolve customer issues escalated to engineering, and feed findings back into the product.
  • Track emerging macOS and security technologies and propose improvements to the teams tools and development processes.
  • Become the go-to development expert in at least one product area and deepen that expertise over time.
