Senior Software Engineer UI Developer Tooling

Salary: £65,000 - 105,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need someone who has built shared frameworks, tooling, or platforms that other engineers rely on day to day.
• We need strong experience with Vite and modern front-end build tooling, including diagnosing issues deep in the module graph.
• We need experience shipping module federation or equivalent microfrontend architecture in production at scale, with understanding of versioning, contract, and runtime pitfalls.
• We need fluency in TypeScript, monorepo tooling such as Nx or Turborepo, and modern package management such as pnpm workspaces.
• We need experience designing GitLab CI pipelines that are fast, reliable, and provide a clear signal when something breaks.
• We need experience automating dependency management with Renovate or similar tools and integrating security tooling such as SAST, SCA, or Snyk into developer workflows.
• We need experience setting engineering standards that autonomous teams adopt, and influencing senior engineers and leaders when needed.
• We need experience using AI in earnest to change how engineering work gets done.
• Bonus experience includes Playwright and modern browser test tooling in CI, running Jenkins alongside modern CI during a platform migration, ephemeral preview environments per MR, developer experience metrics such as DORA or SPACE, and contract testing between federated remotes in a large distributed front end.

Responsibilities:

• We own the module federation architecture that lets dozens of Product Groups ship independent microfrontends into a single UI shell.
• We lead the shared Vite build and dev-server tooling used locally and in CI.
• We design and run CI pipelines that build, verify, and publish every UI package across GitLab CI and Jenkins.
• We ship the single CLI that scaffolds repos, wires in module federation, runs tests, and cuts releases.
• We wire automated dependency management, security scanning, and AI-assisted upgrades into the paved road.
• We shift left by moving linting, type checks, build validation, and contract checks into the editor and pre-push hooks.
• We work with UI Quality, UI Release, and Observability so the platform feels like one thing through a single CLI.
• We pair with Product Group leads to migrate legacy build and tooling patterns onto the paved road and drive adoption across the organisation.
• We mentor engineers on build tooling, module federation, and monorepo patterns, and provide thoughtful code review.
• We build ephemeral environments and preview deployments per merge request so engineers get fast feedback before merging.
