Senior Software Engineer

Salary: £75,000 - 87,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong expertise in Python web development frameworks such as Django and JavaScript/TypeScript, with experience working in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Skilled in applying software technical design principles to build scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions within modern cloud-based architectures.
• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and practices.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Adaptability and willingness to learn, including working in Agile environments.
• Technical leadership experience, including mentoring and providing best-practice guidance.
• Experience with modern frameworks and libraries such as React, Node.js, Terraform, or Celery.
• Experience with database schema design and query optimisation.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable software solutions in alignment with the Principal Software Engineer and Architects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product, QA, and DevOps, to deliver high-quality features.
• Lead code reviews and technical discussions, and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Lead complex coding tasks and ensure code quality.
• Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
• Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
• Estimate work and lead delivery of features from the roadmap.
• Solve ambiguous problems with scalable solutions.

We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our delivery team within a broader engineering function that delivers critical systems. Our digital platform supports multiple applications, including contract management, task management, workflow automation, repetitive task automation, template standardisation, settlement tools, forecasting engines, calculation services, analytics, dashboards, and data portals. This is a permanent role based in Birmingham, with a salary of up to £87,000 per annum. As a technical leader, you will work closely with the Principal Software Engineer and Architects, helping define system architecture, guide the team through complex challenges, and champion engineering best practices while remaining hands-on in development. This role does not include direct line management, but it does require strong technical leadership and collaboration across the wider team.
