Senior Developer

Salary: £55,000 - 78,000 per year

Requirements:

• We have significant commercial experience with Java 11+ and Python 3.
• We have experience with Spring Boot, Python Flask microservices, Spring Security, and OAuth2.
• We have experience with JavaScript UI frameworks, including React.
• We have strong HTML and CSS skills, with awareness of accessibility considerations.
• We have experience with OpenShift.
• We have experience with modern DevOps and CI/CD practices, including deployment pipelines, Jenkins, and Docker.
• We have experience designing and developing with relational and NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
• We have significant and demonstrable commercial experience delivering high-quality software collaboratively in high-performing, cross-functional development teams.
• We have experience designing, gaining consensus, and implementing technical solutions for software development projects.
• We have experience developing solutions using human-centred, research-driven, inclusive design practices.
• We have experience designing and implementing solutions using service-based and event-based architectures.
• We have experience using testing tools for unit testing, including system test automation frameworks.
• We have experience with cloud monitoring, telemetry, intelligence tools, and processes, including Grafana.
• We have experience incrementally replacing enterprise legacy systems.
• We have experience working in Agile delivery models.
• We have experience defining infrastructure as code.
• We have experience using UI pattern libraries to achieve consistent, tested, high-quality interfaces.
• We have experience using code quality, monitoring, telemetry, and analytics tools.
• Desirable: We have experience with AWS Lambda, S3, CloudFormation, Aurora/PostgreSQL, API Gateway, and CDK.
• Desirable: We have experience with TypeScript.

Responsibilities:

• We continue enhancing our customer-facing product portfolio based on customer feedback.
• We continue developing and supporting customer-facing products in line with our product and architecture roadmaps, improving digital sustainability and reducing architectural and technical debt.
• We demonstrate excellent, sustainable, and collaborative software development practices focused on delivering highly readable, maintainable, and appropriate artefacts.
• We provide software development services.
• We actively participate in team events, lead where specialist knowledge is required, and support the team to improve our processes through inspection and adaptation.
• We engage with wider communities of practice and interest to share knowledge, techniques, and experience.
• We ensure high-quality developed solutions through unit testing, appropriate code coverage, and code analysis using quality tools.
• We ensure our software complies with non-functional requirements such as accessibility, security, UI/UX, performance, maintainability, and deployability.
• We troubleshoot development and production problems across multiple environments and operating platforms, from our AWS-based modern stack to the ETL and database strands that underpin the service.
• We routinely use collaborative development practices such as pairing and mobbing in programming, code reviews, system design, and requirements analysis and refinement.
• We coach and mentor other team members as appropriate.
• We support and deliver disaster recovery assurance of digital services, working toward a sustainable Recovery Time Objective of 2 hours and a Recovery Point Objective of zero.

We are a public sector organisation based in Edinburgh and Glasgow, offering an initial 6-month contract for a Senior Developer. The role is hybrid, combining home and office working, and is outside IR35 at a rate of £486 per day.
