Senior AI Quality Engineer

Salary: £55,000 - 95,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for someone with 5+ years in quality engineering or test automation, with a track record of keeping automated suites stable and well-maintained.
• We need experience working in a scaled engineering environment with multiple teams and competing priorities.
• We need hands-on coding experience writing test code, frameworks, CI pipelines, and helper scripts.
• We need API and contract testing experience, with a strong point of view on test data and environment strategy.
• We need experience setting up and using Service Level Objectives to define reliability expectations and drive measurable improvements.
• We need a native AI-assisted working style, including experience using AI to improve test authoring, triage, and coverage analysis.
• We need experience coaching other disciplines in quality and bringing teams together to solve quality problems.
• We need experience shaping CI/CD pipelines for test reliability, including flakiness reduction, parallelisation, artefact management, and runtime control.
• We need a proactive, low-ego communicator who can chase issues down when blocked.
• We need someone able to operate independently and drive improvements end to end across frameworks, CI, test data, and reporting.
• We want someone who can point to 3-4 projects with measurable quality impact.
• Nice to have: experience with incident management, PHP, Kotlin or Typescript, and financial services or other regulated environments.

Responsibilities:

• We are hiring Senior Quality Engineers to help us set up a Quality Engineering department alongside our new Head of Quality.
• We will have you work cross-functionally with software engineers, product, and design to improve quality across teams.
• You will spend most of your time writing code for AI agents, test frameworks, CI tooling, and helpers rather than executing tests manually.
• You will rotate across different product teams for short periods to level up quality.
• You will define and evolve our pragmatic test pyramid, deciding where E2E testing is worth the cost and where unit or component tests are better.
• You will make deliberate decisions about coverage, reliability, and speed trade-offs.
• You will devise and set up performance benchmarks to prevent regressions in critical system areas.
• You will use AI tooling day to day to accelerate test authoring, failure clustering, coverage insights, and fix proposals.
• You will build agents that exploratory test changes and help catch issues before production.
• You will build reliable E2E automation and help teams create comprehensive test suites.
• You will improve test environments and data fixtures so they are easy to use and reliable.
• You will drive flakiness down and reduce time to diagnosis.
• You will partner with product and engineering on shift-left quality by joining specs early, pushing back on ambiguous acceptance criteria, and surfacing risk before code is written.
• You will close the loop on production issues using our observability stack, linking test coverage to real customer impact.
• You will help teams ensure Service Level Objectives are set up and met.
• You will run targeted exploratory testing on high-risk releases when needed.
