Senior 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineer

Salary: £75,000 - 75,000 per year

Requirements:

• High DV Developed Vetting clearance.
• Excellent knowledge of virtualized environments such as VMware and Hyper-V.
• Excellent knowledge of VDI environments such as VMware Horizon or Citrix.
• Excellent knowledge of HCI such as NetApp SolidFire or Nutanix.
• Excellent knowledge of SAN storage technologies such as NetApp or Dell PowerStore.
• Excellent knowledge of backup and recovery technologies such as Veeam or Commvault.
• Excellent knowledge of Windows Server environments from Server 2008 to 2025, including AD, DNS, DHCP and GPO from design to implementation and support.
• Demonstrable experience supporting enterprise IT hardware in datacentre environments.
• Strong Linux system administration skills, including Ubuntu, CentOS and RedHat.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and networking technologies, including load balancing and firewalls.
• Strong knowledge of software-defined networking such as VMware NSX-T or HPE Aruba.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft stack technologies such as SharePoint, Skype/Teams, MS SQL, MS System Centre, Office365, SCCM, MS Exchange and CLI tooling.
• General knowledge of cloud-native application platforms and Kubernetes-based containerised applications.
• Experience working on Production, Reference and Development systems and the configuration control lifecycle from development through to production.
• Experience with MicroServices architecture platforms such as Tanzu and Rancher, Kubernetes and Docker.
• Knowledge of 2 Factor Authentication technologies.
• Knowledge or experience with scripting.
• Experience producing and updating technical documentation to a high standard.
• Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• ITIL 3 or ITIL 4 Foundation level or above.

Responsibilities:

• Provide complex fault rectification and support for incidents on IT systems supporting key National Security outputs.
• Support Problem Management, Continual Service Improvement and occasional Change Request work.
• Conduct reactive and proactive maintenance, primarily on the JUNO system, and occasionally support other systems we manage.
• Respond to escalations from 2nd Line Engineers and other Resolver Groups.
• Conduct advanced troubleshooting to diagnose and rectify issues as they arise.
• Develop technical solutions to complex issues and problems.
• Liaise with stakeholders at all levels of seniority, including the customer.
• Resolve issues and problems within SLA levels and ensure KPIs are met.
• Ensure Cat A systems remain online and running smoothly.
• Perform root cause analysis with other resolver groups, original manufacturers, users and suppliers.
• Complete and record periodic maintenance using PPM and routine upgrading activities to address obsolescence issues.
• Maintain and create documentation of system configuration changes and accurately record work in SD.
• Assist with the configuration, installation and deployment of infrastructure components, including virtual machines and UADs.
• Engage in infrastructure-related projects and change requests, contributing to implementation build and testing phases.
