Machine Learning Tech Lead

Salary: £30,000 - 50,000 per year

Requirements:

• We have recently worked as a hands-on Machine Learning practitioner, for example as a Senior IC, Tech Lead, Team Lead or ML manager.
• We have strong foundations in ML, statistics, forecasting, optimisation or operations research, and enjoy applying them to messy real-world problems.
• We have built, shipped or owned ML systems in production, and understand what it takes to make models useful, reliable, monitored and safe.
• We can move between technical detail and business context, explaining complex ML ideas clearly to technical and non-technical people.
• Coaching others is something we enjoy and take seriously; we may already have people management experience, but the role is also open to people taking their first formal step into management.
• We are energised by ambiguous problem spaces and are comfortable combining models, algorithms, product changes and operational processes.
• We care about customer outcomes and want to build systems that help people get answers to their problems quickly and efficiently.
• We are adaptable, curious and excited by quantitative problems.

Responsibilities:

• We will shape the ML strategy for Workforce Management, deciding where ML, forecasting and optimisation can have the biggest impact for customers and human agents.
• We will lead the design, build and delivery of production ML systems across forecasting, routing, assignment, escalation and time-to-completion prediction.
• We will stay close to the technical details by helping the team frame problems well, choose the right modelling approach, define robust validation, review trade-offs and ship safely.
• We will work with Product, Engineering, Data and Operations leaders to turn ambiguous operational problems into pragmatic, iterative ML systems that improve real customer outcomes.
• We will coach and develop Machine Learning Scientists through regular 1:1s, feedback and technical guidance.
• We will create healthy ways of working for the team, including clear priorities, strong technical standards, good documentation, sensible monitoring and space for people to do their best work.
• We will contribute to the wider Machine Learning discipline by helping scale how we build, ship and operate ML systems in production.

We offer a salary of £113,200 - £145,200, incentive awards tied to performance, benefits, flexible working hours, visa sponsorship and relocation support, a £1,000 annual learning budget, and equipment and home-working support.
