Job Description

Salary: £27,040 - 31,200 per year

Requirements:
  • Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) status with substantial post-qualification experience; 5 years across diverse specialties is desired.
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent; a background in Science or Medicine is highly desirable.
  • Deep knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, national coding rules, and confidentiality legislation.
  • Strong leadership capabilities to guide junior coders, manage high-pressure deadlines, and drive team performance.
  • In-depth understanding of Data Quality frameworks, HRGs, and NHS financial flows.
  • Sharp analytical, communication, and keying skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead clinical coding operations and data quality initiatives while translating complex medical records into standardized coding formats, including ICD-10 and OPCS-4.
  • Mentor Clinical Coders and Data Quality Officers, oversee annual Performance Developmental Reviews, set individual objectives, and establish personal development plans.
  • Extract and translate clinical information from physical notes, electronic discharge summaries, and Trust systems into accurate codes in compliance with national standards.
  • Support the Audit Manager with coding audits, Information Governance and DSP toolkit compliance, and resolution of data quality issues.
  • Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical teams to optimize outpatient procedure capturing, design updated outcome forms, and educate staff on correct recording pathways.
  • Identify training gaps through random validation checks, promote efficient data capture practices, and ensure timely entry onto the Trusts PAS to meet national financial flow deadlines.
  • Work closely with departmental leadership to align coding accuracy with Trust Business Plans, SUS PbR processes, and national Data Security and Protection standards.

This is a contract role for an initial three months, with extension potential, based remotely/work from home for Croydon Healthcare Services. We are seeking someone to balance high-level supervision with hands-on coding and auditing, working closely with departmental leadership to support coding accuracy, data quality, and compliance with national standards.
