Lead Platform Engineer

Salary: £45,000 - 75,000 per year

Requirements:

• Significant experience delivering cloud and platform solutions within complex enterprise environments, particularly Azure and/or AWS.
• Demonstrable experience working directly with external clients and senior stakeholders.
• Strong consulting and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience leading technical workshops and architecture discussions.
• Strong Azure expertise and cloud-native engineering experience.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containerisation and modern platform engineering.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD, automation and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience in regulated, secure or mission-critical environments.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Experience leading and developing engineering teams.
• Security clearance, or the ability to obtain SC clearance within a short timescale.
• Desirable: experience delivering cloud and platform solutions in Government, Defence, Critical National Infrastructure or other highly regulated environments.
• Desirable: understanding of DevSecOps, security-by-design and platform governance principles.
• Desirable: experience with AWS and multi-cloud architectures.
• Desirable: experience operating and governing Kubernetes platforms at enterprise scale.
• Desirable: knowledge of observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry and Azure Monitor.
• Desirable: experience designing and supporting hybrid cloud environments.
• Desirable: familiarity with Internal Developer Platforms and self-service engineering models.
• Desirable: experience leading large-scale cloud migration and application modernisation programmes.
• Desirable: knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering principles and operational excellence practices.
• Desirable: experience with enterprise networking, identity management and Zero Trust architectures.
• Desirable: exposure to data and AI platforms.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and delivery of cloud and platform solutions for major client programmes.
• Build trusted relationships with client technical and delivery stakeholders.
• Represent platform engineering at a senior level in client meetings, workshops and governance forums.
• Provide technical leadership during discovery, architecture, mobilisation and delivery phases.
• Lead and mentor a team of platform engineers.
• Define platform standards, engineering patterns and operational best practices.
• Drive automation through Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ensure platforms are secure, resilient and compliant with client and regulatory requirements.
• Support solution development, estimates, bid responses and technical assurance activities.
• Collaborate with architects, engineering teams and programme leaders to resolve complex technical challenges.
• Act as the escalation point for critical platform and infrastructure issues.
• Drive continuous improvement, cost optimisation and operational excellence.
