Java Developer

Salary: £61,000 - 101,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong experience as a Java developer, with deep knowledge of core Java concepts, modern frameworks, and best practices for building scalable, maintainable, high-performance applications.
• Good technical acumen, including the ability to understand complex systems, troubleshoot issues, and apply sound engineering principles to solve problems.
• Proactive approach to learning, keeping up to date with new technologies and continuously improving skills and understanding.
• Ability to design and develop enterprise-level software solutions using source control, build tools such as Maven, test-driven development (TDD), Jenkins, and related tools and techniques.
• Experience in financial services is valued.
• Experience mentoring team members is valued.
• Knowledge of Spring, Hibernate, JMS, React, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, ECS, Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS development and deployment is valued.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and improve software using engineering methodologies to provide business, platform, and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues.
• Develop and deliver high-quality software using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
• Ensure code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
• Work with product managers, designers, and engineers to define software requirements, develop solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration with business objectives.
• Participate in code reviews, collaborate with peers, and promote code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Keep informed about technology trends and innovations and contribute to our technology communities.
• Follow secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and deliver secure software.
• Apply effective unit testing practices to support good code design, readability, and reliability.
• Advise and influence decision-making, contribute to policy development, and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
• Collaborate with other functions and business divisions; lead complex work that affects the wider business function.
• Consult on complex issues and advise People Leaders on resolving escalated issues.
• Identify ways to mitigate risk, develop policies and procedures that support control and governance, and take ownership of risk management and control improvements in our work.
• Understand how related areas coordinate and contribute to organizational objectives, and collaborate across areas to stay aligned with business activity and strategy.
