IBMz Network Engineer

Salary: £55,000 - 95,000 per year

Requirements:

• Experience administering file transmission products such as Connect:Direct and FTP, or strong experience using these products.
• Knowledge of z/OS and z/OS utilities.
• Understanding of z/OS networking services, structure, and related software and protocols.
• Understanding of network security disciplines such as IPSec, TLS/SSL, and certificates, and how they relate to file transmission.
• Experience with problem management from initial diagnosis through resolution.
• Understanding of the change management process.
• Ability to customize and manage secure SNA and TCP/IP networks under z/OS.
• Knowledge of mainframe network management tools such as NetMaster, and multi-session manager products such as TUBES and Supersession.
• Experience managing mainframe printing products.
• General z/OS systems programming experience.
• Knowledge of System z hardware, including OSA-Express network cards.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication, teamwork, and negotiation skills.
• Familiarity with Cisco Network Solutions.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure.
• Good organisational skills.
• Flexibility and adaptability.
• Ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues and customers.
• Business awareness and understanding of IT business requirements.
• Willingness to keep up to date with developments in new technology.
• Understanding of information legislation such as the Data Protection Act.
• Experience working as a z/OS Systems Specialist in the IT industry.

Responsibilities:

• Support IBM mainframe networks and transmission products and infrastructure as part of a multi-functional team.
• Participate in a support rota providing 24x7 cover.
• Perform TCPIP port reserves, including additions, deletions, and changes.
• Perform VTAM updates, including additions, deletions, and changes.
• Manage OSA adapters in a complex mainframe environment.
• Perform VTAM PU/LU updates, including Enterprise Extenders (EE).
• Implement AT-TLS rules, including digital certificate management.
• Configure and manage IPSEC policies, including permit/deny rules and VPN IPsec tunnels.
• Carry out trace, debug, and error analysis.
• Communicate regularly with technical, applications, and operational staff to ensure network connectivity and security, including some after-hours and weekend work.
