Functional Test Engineer

Salary: £50,000 - 65,000 per year

Requirements:

• Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications or a related discipline.
• Strong experience in functional testing within Agile/Scrum environments.
• Experience testing embedded systems, communications products, networking, IoT or similar technologies.
• Knowledge of structured test design techniques and exploratory testing.
• Experience with test automation tools and scripting using Python, C# or similar.
• Familiarity with Jira, Azure DevOps or other test and defect management tools.
• Strong debugging, defect investigation and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with telecoms, RF, networking protocols or communications devices.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and version control systems such as Git.
• ISTQB certification.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop and execute functional test cases for embedded software, devices and APIs.
• Perform manual, exploratory and automated testing throughout the development lifecycle.
• Investigate defects, analyse logs and system traces and work closely with developers to resolve issues.
• Maintain and develop test strategies, test plans and regression testing approaches.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives.
• Contribute to test automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce regression effort.
• Provide clear reporting on test progress, risks and quality metrics.

We are based just north of Cambridge in CB25 and are offering a permanent Functional Test Engineer position within our Agile software development team. The role is primarily office-based, with a 37-hour week and an early finish on Fridays. We work on complex embedded communication and connectivity products, and we are looking for a detail-oriented, proactive test professional with excellent communication skills, a strong sense of ownership and a passion for delivering high-quality products in a collaborative Agile environment. The salary is £50,000 to £65,000 depending on experience.
