AI Operations Lead

Salary: £48,000 - 48,000 per year

Requirements:

• Genuine, demonstrable experience using modern tools and automation such as ChatGPT or Copilot to solve real operational problems, with actual outputs rather than courses; personal projects or self-built work count.
• Real, hands-on ability to build something that runs on its own, such as a script, an automation, or a chained set of API calls, not just prompting by hand.
• Strong process thinking and the ability to map a workflow before trying to fix it.
• Comfort with data at a working level, including CSVs, structured inputs, and spotting when something is wrong.
• Precise written communication and the ability to write instructions that someone else can follow exactly.
• Commercial awareness and an understanding that the clients experience of a report matters as much as its accuracy.
• More hunger and initiative than track record; we are open to backing someone early in their career who has already built things off their own back.
• A background in operations rather than software development is desirable; a computer science degree or enterprise technology platform experience is not required.
• Years of experience in this exact job are not required.

Responsibilities:

• Work directly with our COO and operational leads to identify what is broken or slow and build the fix.
• Turn existing proof-of-concept workflows into permanent, repeatable tools used by real people the next day.
• Maintain a tooling library with every prompt, workflow tool, input template, and output standard version controlled and documented.
• Ensure tools work consistently every time and improve them as the business changes.
• Run guides and training so the team can use these tools without us in the room.
• Maintain a live roadmap showing what has been built, what is next, and the business case for each item.
• Produce the evidence and documentation our governance team needs to sign things off quickly, while keeping our build approach within data protection, security, and client obligations.
• Support priority workflows including case onboarding and file processing, appeals and complaints handling, client performance narrative on Power BI reports, internal dataset interpretation, and workflow routing across our case volume.

Our client has committed at board level to embedding new tools and automation across operations as a permanent capability, not a project. This is a new, highly autonomous role based from our Manchester office with hybrid working and flexibility on pattern, a 37.5-hour work week, 25 days paid holiday plus Bank and Public Holidays, and a workplace pension scheme with auto enrolment after three months service.
