Python / Java Lead Software Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £62,000 - 102,000 per year
Requirements:- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and advanced applied experience in Python
- Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Advanced in one or more programming language(s)
- Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security
- Ability to define a practical operating model for AI-assisted development, including approved use cases, do/dont guidance, and escalation paths
- Ability to establish validation standards for AI outputs, including mandatory peer review, secure coding checks, and automated test requirements before merge or release
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and resiliency and security expectations
- Experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption of AI-assisted tools within delivery practices
- Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
- Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, application resiliency, and security
- In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems
- Practical cloud native experience
- Preferred: Advanced Apache Spark experience, including PySpark/Spark SQL, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and scalable batch/stream processing patterns
- Preferred: Deep lakehouse and data platform expertise applied in production environments
- Preferred: Strong DevSecOps and platform engineering capability, including CI/CD design, automated security/quality gates, observability, SLOs/SLAs, and incident management/RCA in regulated environments
- Preferred: Proven end-to-end delivery leadership for large, cross-functional initiatives
- Preferred: Experience driving responsible, enterprise-approved AI-assisted engineering adoption and building reusable golden path templates/pattern libraries
- Execute creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting to build solutions and solve technical problems
- Develop secure and high-quality production code, and review and debug code written by others
- Drive team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes
- Establish clear guardrails for where AI helps and where it must not across the SDLC
- Implement a repeatable AI-assisted review workflow with PR checklists, quality gates, and approval criteria
- Apply knowledge of SDLC tools, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation
- Select and standardize the right tools across planning, code, build, test, security scanning, release, and operations
- Design CI/CD pipelines with measurable outcomes and use automation to remove manual steps and improve release reliability
- Identify opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve operational stability
- Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability within existing systems and information architecture
