Job Description

Salary: £69,000 - 109,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related software engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong backend experience with Java.
  • Experience with AWS and DevOps concepts such as IaC; we use Terraform.
  • Experience with event streaming technologies such as SNS/SQS or Kafka.
  • Good grasp of relational and non-relational databases, messaging queues, and concurrency.
  • Experience working with high-volume systems.
  • Understanding of modern architectures, design patterns, and platform nuances.
  • Strong experience with cloud-based infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS.
  • Understanding of containers such as Docker and orchestration such as Kubernetes.
  • Experience with testing concepts, test tools, and integrating testing and best practices into the SDLC.
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
  • Familiarity with working in an Agile environment.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Build and optimize high-performance microservices for our Core Marketing Platforms teams.
  • Design highly scalable, event-driven systems that process large volumes of real-time data.
  • Enable real-time customer communications, personalized promotions, and targeted campaign delivery.
  • Help deliver intelligent insights to marketing partners and support data-driven, personalized experiences for millions of customers.
  • Work within a modern microservices and event-driven architecture, building Martech solutions enhanced by AI.
  • Consider long-term system capacity and what our platforms can handle now versus in the future.
  • Simplify existing systems by consolidating redundant systems, deleting unnecessary code, and updating outdated documentation.
  • Coach and develop other software engineers technical skills.
  • Lead projects with a holistic view of the strategic direction of the vertical.
  • Define future architecture and help us adopt modern technologies effectively while improving existing systems.
  • Solve complex problems, seeking input and guidance from team members when needed.
  • Turn defined designs into code and deliver on schedule using appropriate technologies and software engineering best practices.
  • Write secure, stable, testable, maintainable code with minimal defects.
  • Participate in design, scoping, and prioritization discussions.
  • Work effectively with team members and identify opportunities or problems arising from technical decisions.
  • Own parts of product and technology and work toward subject matter expertise.
  • Write simple, extendable code following standards and best practices.
  • Test code thoroughly while balancing customer and team requirements.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, team planning, and support ticket reviews.
  • Improve team software and processes through enhancements and projects.
  • Resolve root causes of complicated problems and leave software better than you found it.
  • Coach and mentor others through your expertise.
  • Understand data storage, classification, and optimization techniques.
  • Estimate stories and tasks and deliver them on time.
  • Stay up to date with market standards, open-source frameworks, and industry tools.
  • Understand the maintenance characteristics, run-time properties, and dependencies of our software, including hardware platform, operating system, and build dependencies.
  • Participate in the on-call support rotation.
  • Contribute to colleagues professional development and improve engineering practices.
  • Document software clearly so future developers understand the intention behind the features and components you build.
  • Troubleshoot problems and thoroughly resolve defects.
