Principal Mobile Software Engineer

Salary: £34,000 - 65,000 per year

Requirements:

• 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, with deep expertise in native iOS (Swift), Android (Kotlin), and React Native.
• A track record of solving complex mobile engineering problems, including architecture, cross-platform unification, and consumer-scale reliability, with measurable impact at scale.
• Deep expertise in mobile-to-cloud integration, BLE/Wi-Fi connectivity, and the full stack from firmware interfaces through cloud services.
• Recognized technical authority, sought out when the stakes are highest.
• Proven ability to set engineering standards and frameworks that scale across teams.
• Strong cross-functional influence built on technical credibility, not positional authority.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex decisions for leadership and business stakeholders.
• Preferred: experience with Rust/C/C++ for cross-platform or performance-critical work.
• Preferred: connected product, IoT, robotics, or smart home background.
• Preferred: AI-integrated mobile architecture experience, including on-device ML, AI-assisted development, or LLM interfaces.
• Preferred: experience with platform unification or large-scale architectural transitions.
• Preferred: consumer electronics or robotics background.

Responsibilities:

• Own SharkNinjas most complex, non-recurring mobile challenges across native iOS/Android, cross-platform frameworks, cloud integration, device connectivity, and AI-driven development.
• Make and defend high-stakes architecture and technology decisions with long-term impact on platform reliability and engineering velocity.
• Set and evolve mobile engineering standards, including architecture patterns, cross-platform strategy, testing philosophy, and production-readiness criteria.
• Define integration patterns across mobile, cloud, firmware, and connected devices, and drive React Native versus native platform strategy.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and AI coding tools, forming clear technical points of view.
• Serve as SharkNinjas go-to authority on mobile engineering across Mobile, Firmware, Cloud, Hardware, Product, and Design.
• Lead design reviews and communities of practice that raise engineering quality across the organization.
• Mentor senior and staff engineers through proximity to hard problems.
• Build reusable frameworks, reference architectures, and documentation that outlast any single project.
• Champion AI-driven development workflows across the mobile organization.
• Define how the mobile platform integrates with AI, including on-device inference, AI-powered features, and data contracts connecting mobile to cloud-based AI services.
• Solve mobile and AI integration challenges with no established playbook, ensuring the platform is ready for future AI-powered features.
