Senior Lead Software Engineer Backend Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £62,000 - 102,000 per year
Requirements:- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, with applied experience
- Recent hands-on professional experience as a back-end software engineer
- Experience coding in a recent version of Java
- Experience designing and implementing effective tests, including unit, component, integration, end-to-end, and performance testing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Experience with cloud technologies, distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and web technologies
- Knowledge of messaging frameworks
- Experience operating, supporting, and securing mission-critical software applications
- Understanding of different kinds of data stores, including relational data stores
- Ability to coach other team members on coding practices, design principles, and implementation patterns
- Ability to manage stakeholders and prioritize work across multiple work streams
- Demonstrated experience leading the effective use of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools, with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and resiliency and security expectations
- Experience coaching senior engineers and leads on compliant AI usage patterns and controls
- Experience working in a highly regulated environment or industry
- Experience with cloud-native microservices architecture
- Proficiency with AWS cloud technologies
- Deliver end-to-end solutions as cloud-native microservices architecture applications using the latest technologies and industry best practices
- Use domain modelling techniques to build best-in-class business products
- Structure software so it is easy to understand, test, and evolve
- Build solutions that avoid single points of failure using scalable architectural patterns
- Develop secure code to protect customers and the business from malicious actors
- Investigate and fix issues promptly, and ensure they do not resurface
- Ensure releases happen with zero downtime for end users
- Optimize how data is written and read to meet our needs
- Monitor performance and identify and solve problems using the right approach
- Ensure systems are reliable and easy to operate
- Keep technologies and patterns up to date through continuous improvement
- Support products throughout their full lifecycle, including production support and incident management
- Drive adoption and governance of approved AI-assisted engineering practices across teams to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes
- Establish measurable validation standards, including secure coding, peer review, and automated testing
- Promote reuse of proven patterns and automation within the SDLC/TLM toolchain
- Apply knowledge of software development life cycle tools, including approved AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve automation value at scale
