Built Asset Security Adviser
Job Description
Salary: £36,000 - 60,000 per year
Requirements:- Significant experience as a Security Engineer, Security Specialist, or Security Adviser within the built construction environment.
- Experience supporting highly secure, regulated, or high-containment facilities.
- Strong understanding of physical, technical, and operational security design principles.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, threat analyses, and security assurance activities.
- Demonstrable knowledge of Schedule 5 of the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001.
- Demonstrable knowledge of ISO 19650-5:2020, the security-minded approach to BIM.
- Demonstrable knowledge of ISO 23234:2021 for security in BIM and built assets.
- Knowledge of the NPSA Surreptitious Threat Mitigation Process and its practical application.
- Ability to communicate complex security requirements to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in high-consequence environments.
- SC Clearance is essential, and we require candidates to be willing and eligible to undergo checks.
- We may give preference to candidates who hold active security clearance.
- Desirable: Hostile Vehicle Mitigation experience.
- Desirable: Experience working within secure or classified environments.
- Desirable: Working towards, or already holding, Chartered Security Professional status.
- Desirable: Registered Security Consultant/Specialist credentials such as RSCS.
- Desirable: A security engineering specialist background rather than a generalist security profile.
- Provide specialist security engineering advice for the design, development, and review of secure facilities, particularly high-containment laboratories and sensitive government buildings.
- Review site perimeter security arrangements, including Hostile Vehicle Mitigation measures, and develop recommendations for security enhancements.
- Lead and support security risk assessments, threat analyses, and vulnerability studies for high-risk environments.
- Develop, review, and assure security design documentation, including protective security strategies, technical specifications, and assurance reports.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, programme teams, and security stakeholders to integrate security measures into complex infrastructure projects.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and security frameworks throughout project delivery.
- Advise on digital engineering security requirements, including BIM-related security controls and secure information management.
- Support design reviews, governance activities, construction assurance, commissioning, and operational readiness reviews.

We are working on behalf of the MOD and Dstl to hire a Built Asset Security Advisor for a 12-month contract. This is a hybrid role, requiring up to 3 days a week on site in Portadown, with occasional travel to Portsmouth sites. The role supports the design, development, review, and assurance of secure environments across high-security facilities and infrastructure projects, including Containment Level 3 and 4 laboratories. This position is inside IR35 and can only be worked within the UK. The MOD supports Disability Confident and Armed Forces Covenant commitments, and will interview candidates who meet the essential criteria and are disabled, neurodivergent, veterans, or military spouses/partners, subject to the scheme rules and shortlisting requirements.
