Junior Software Design Engineer

Salary: £30,000 - 40,000 per year

Requirements:

• A degree in Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline
• At least 2 years of industry experience in a software or embedded engineering role
• Solid programming fundamentals with experience in Python, C/C++ or JavaScript
• Some exposure to embedded systems and firmware development
• An interest in working across both software and hardware environments
• Familiarity with modern web technologies and UI frameworks
• A basic understanding of APIs, databases, and cloud platforms
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Self-motivated and comfortable working independently and as part of a team
• Clear communication skills
• Keen to develop understanding of complex systems

Responsibilities:

• Support the design, development, and maintenance of software for current and future products
• Gain exposure across the full stack, including backend development, frontend/UI design, and APIs and system integrations
• Contribute to automation, tooling, and cloud/infrastructure tasks
• Assist with embedded software and firmware development
• Work alongside hardware teams on microcontrollers, device communication, and low-level systems
• Investigate and help resolve bugs and performance issues
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
• Contribute ideas to technical decisions and continuous improvement initiatives
