Systems Engineer - Nuclear Hardening

Salary: £112,234.8 - 149,120 per year

Requirements:

• We have familiarity with Nuclear Hardening standards, which is preferable.
• We have knowledge of Nuclear Hardening analysis, test specifications, test procedures, test setups, and test data, which is preferable.
• We can analyse customer Nuclear Hardening requirements.
• We have experience in system-level Nuclear Hardening design, development, and solutions, including GFE environments and mitigations.
• We can select Nuclear Hardening equipment appropriately.
• We have practical experience installing electrical equipment, including rack installation and compliant cabling practices, which is essential.
• We understand the effects of electrical equipment and cabling interference, and methods for mitigating interference, which is essential.
• We hold electrical safety certification.
• We have previous experience generating test plans for sign-off of electrical equipment installations, preferably with Nuclear Hardening experience.
• We have experience in verification, validation, and integration.
• We have experience transitioning systems into operation.
• We can safeguard security-classified and/or export-controlled data.
• We have knowledge of military ground site installations and associated standards, which is preferred but not essential.
• We have knowledge of military communications systems, which is preferred but not essential.
• We are able to obtain UK National Security Clearance, and may be subject to Defence Vetting.

Responsibilities:

• We support the Systems team in designing a compliant equipment installation design with associated test plans and compliance evidence.
• We work across the full system lifecycle from initial design through installation to customer handover.
• We identify the stakeholder for the solution and capture their needs and expectations.
• We identify the boundary of the solution to be developed.
• We elicit and validate Nuclear Hardening requirements while considering the complete system lifecycle.
• We design and define possible architectures in collaboration with IS/IT specialists, considering functions and other constraints.
• We identify mitigations to Nuclear Hardening requirements based on the installation environment.
• We identify responses to Nuclear Hardening requirements based on evaluation of Nuclear Hardening processes in the context of a military fixed ground installation.
• We produce Nuclear Hardening analysis and mitigation plans, including relevant test plans.
• We lead engagement with test houses to fully define the approach.
• We lead engagement with customer stakeholders to fully agree the Nuclear Hardening response.
• We lead modelling using appropriate systems engineering techniques.
• We lead analysis, including performance analysis.
• We perform trade-off analysis to select the best solution that fulfils the requirements.
• We validate the architecture.
• We define and manage interface requirements.
• We lead verification of the implementation and its interfaces.
• We lead operational and in-service evaluation.
• We lead impact analysis of design change requests throughout the product lifecycle.

We are recruiting a contractor for a Systems Engineer focused on Nuclear Hardening-compliant ground system installation design for our clients Portsmouth site. Our team delivers satellite communication solutions, including ground-based installations of satellite control and communication equipment such as computer server systems, network infrastructure, and transmission systems. The primary focus of this role is to design equipment installations that comply with Nuclear Hardening standards within the ground-based MilSatcom domain. The successful candidate will support work across the full lifecycle, from concept development through operational deployment, operations, and retirement, and will need to obtain UK National Security Clearance and may be subject to Defence Vetting.
