Senior Software Engineer Java

Salary: £45,000 - 45,000 per year

Requirements:

• We require a degree in Computer Science or a closely related technical discipline.
• We require a strong understanding of fundamental computer science principles and the ability to apply them to real-world engineering challenges.
• We require demonstrable experience as a Senior Software Engineer within a commercial software development environment.
• We require significant hands-on experience with Java and the wider Java ecosystem, including designing, developing, testing and maintaining enterprise-scale applications.
• We require strong experience developing solutions using Spring Boot, RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.
• We require experience building cloud-based applications using Azure or a comparable cloud platform, with an understanding of scalable, reliable and maintainable application design.
• We require strong database experience, including Microsoft SQL Server and ORM technologies such as Hibernate/JPA.
• We require experience developing modern web applications using TypeScript, Angular and SCSS/SASS.
• We require a strong understanding of object-oriented programming concepts, design patterns and SOLID principles.
• We require proficiency in SQL, including the ability to write efficient, optimised queries and collaborate effectively with database specialists.
• We require experience implementing and maintaining automated tests, including unit and integration testing.
• We require knowledge of software performance optimisation, profiling and troubleshooting techniques.
• We require experience mentoring and coaching engineers at different stages of their careers.
• We require the ability to foster a collaborative team culture focused on knowledge sharing, continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
• We require a proactive approach to learning new technologies and improving engineering practices.
• We require a commitment to delivering high-quality software and maintaining exceptional engineering standards.

Responsibilities:

• We take ownership of technical delivery across a variety of software development projects.
• We support and mentor other engineers.
• We contribute to sprint planning, design discussions, code reviews, product releases and continuous improvement initiatives.
• We design, develop and maintain scalable applications across backend and frontend technologies.
• We work with Java, Spring Boot, Azure, SQL Server, TypeScript, Angular and SCSS/SASS.
• We contribute to stakeholder demonstrations and product reviews.
• We support the product release cycle.
• We generate technical reports.
• We participate in mobile development activities.
• We provide engineering input across ongoing projects.
• We take part in planning sessions, retrospectives, sprint reviews and team demos.
• We participate in public code reviews, engineering dojos and refinement sessions.
• We engage in stand-ups, unit testing, pull request submission and review, code reviews, defect resolution, technical debt reduction and system performance monitoring.
• We contribute to design work, katas and pair programming.
• We help shape delivery priorities and drive continuous improvement.
