Job Description

Salary: £48,000 - 68,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Strong commercial Java development experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Java and the wider Java ecosystem.
  • Experience with Spring and/or Spring Boot.
  • Experience managing dependencies using Maven and/or Gradle.
  • Experience upgrading Java libraries, frameworks and third-party dependencies.
  • Experience identifying, investigating and remediating software security vulnerabilities.
  • Good understanding of secure coding practices and common application security risks.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience working with established or legacy Java applications.
  • Experience assessing the impact of upgrades and remediation changes on existing systems.
  • Experience with unit and integration testing.
  • Experience working with Calypso.
  • Experience with code scanning, vulnerability scanning or software composition analysis tools such as Snyk, Veracode, Checkmarx, Black Duck, Sonatype or similar.
  • Familiarity with CVEs and CVSS scoring.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience working in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Knowledge of OWASP principles and DevSecOps practices.
  • Experience working within financial services or other regulated environments.
  • English: C1 Advanced.
Responsibilities:
  • Upgrade legacy applications to modern Spring Boot versions (2.x and 3.x).
  • Decommission and replace Hazelcast across distributed systems.
  • Refactor applications to align with modern, cloud-ready, stateless architectures.
  • Enhance integration with event-driven systems using Apache Kafka.
  • Support applications connected to Murex batch and real-time processing flows.
  • Design and build solutions with minimum supervision.
  • Work with the existing team to deliver solutions.
  • Analyze existing distributed system usage, including caching, clustering, and locking.
  • Refactor applications toward stateless, scalable microservices.
  • Implement and optimize integrations using Kafka-based event-driven architecture.
  • Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and architecture teams on migration and rollout strategy.
  • Ensure high standards of performance, resilience, and fault tolerance.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and production support.
