Principal Software Engineer – Game & Graphics Integration
Job Description
Salary: £45,000 - 80,000 per year
Requirements:- Strong software engineering experience in graphics, game engines, systems software, or other real-time applications.
- Practical experience with Vulkan or another modern graphics API, and strong C++ skills.
- Experience using graphics debugging and profiling tools.
- Experience working in a large game engine or comparable software codebase.
- Solid understanding of GPU rendering, synchronization, memory behavior, and CPU/GPU performance.
- Experience leading technical work, resolving ambiguous engineering problems, and influencing decisions across teams.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions to engineers, leaders, and external partners.
- Useful additional experience may include Unreal Engine, mobile graphics, Android, Arm Mali GPUs, machine learning for graphics, neural rendering, upscaling, frame generation, or working with pre-release hardware and software. Deep experience in every area is not expected; we welcome candidates with strong game-engine or graphics expertise who are interested in learning other areas.
- Lead game-engine investigations and integrations involving new Arm graphics and compute technologies, including work in Unreal Engine and other commercial or proprietary engines.
- Build prototypes, assess architectural options, and help determine which approaches should progress into reusable implementations.
- Analyze CPU and GPU performance, diagnose integration issues, and turn findings into clear recommendations for Arm engineering teams and partners.
- Provide technical direction across team boundaries, represent GTI in partner discussions, and mentor engineers working on related projects.
- Improve technical approaches, identify recurring problems, share engineering knowledge, and help other engineers make sound decisions independently.
- Modify engines, investigate performance problems, test early software stacks, maintain and improve tooling, develop reusable workflows, enable our Content Team, and work directly with external developers.

More:
We are hiring a Principal Software Engineer for Arms Game & Graphics Technology Integration (GTI) team, part of our Strategy & Ecosystems organisation. GTI helps developers adopt Arm technologies by integrating them into game engines and production workflows, testing them in practical scenarios, and sharing findings with the teams building the technologies. Our work spans graphics, machine learning, drivers, developer tools, performance, engine integration, and partner enablement. Recent work includes supporting Neural Dawn, a mobile game using our neural graphics technology and Unreal Engines MegaLights. The position is listed in Manchester, and we are open to basing it at any of our other UK offices. Occasional travel to conferences and partner offices may be involved. A relocation package, including visa sponsorship support, is available for candidates who require it. We use a hybrid-working approach, with teams determining patterns according to the work and team needs; role-specific details are shared during the application process. We are committed to equal opportunities and can provide recruitment-process accommodations on request.
