Requirements:

• Active UK Developed Vetting (DV) Clearance.
• Extensive experience delivering secure enterprise platforms.
• Strong technical leadership alongside hands-on engineering capability.
• Excellent problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience operating within defence, government, or national security environments.
• Strong experience across several of the following: Windows and Linux operating systems; VMware and Hyper-V virtualisation; software-defined datacentre architectures; VMware Cloud Foundation (vSphere, vSAN, NSX-T, Aria Suite); network virtualisation and micro-segmentation; Privileged Access Management (CyberArk or equivalent); secure credential storage, rotation, and access control; PKI design and implementation; certificate lifecycle management; cryptographic principles and secure communications; Active Directory; identity and access management solutions; monitoring and SIEM platforms; enterprise security service integration; TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and firewall technologies; PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform; Infrastructure as Code and platform automation; cyber security controls and accreditation requirements; systems engineering lifecycle experience; delivery within highly secure, air-gapped, defence, or government environments.
• Desirable experience with VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP), AWS and Azure, DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines, VxRail and hyper-converged infrastructure, VMware Cloud Foundation lifecycle automation, SIEM/SOC integration, Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) including Thales, cross-domain and secure communications environments, Kubernetes, and Docker.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, implementation, and integration of secure platforms across on-premise, hybrid, and cloud environments.
• Capture and analyse complex customer requirements to develop robust technical solutions.
• Produce high-level and detailed technical designs aligned to secure-by-design principles.
• Own technical delivery across work packages, including planning, estimation, and reporting.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and capability development within engineering teams.
• Drive innovation, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Integrate enterprise infrastructure, security, and identity services within complex environments.
• Engage with stakeholders to present, justify, and deliver technical solutions.

We are recruiting a Principal Platform Engineer for a high-profile programme supporting defence, government, and national security operations. This is a long-term contract based onsite in Yeovil, with a 12-month duration, an inside IR35 rate of £680 to £713 per day, and the option of a condensed working pattern where you can work three long days and be paid for five.
