Requirements:
  • Extensive experience in mobile telecommunications as a RAN Performance or Optimisation SME
  • Strong expertise in UE log analysis, Wireshark tracing, and end-to-end network troubleshooting
  • Deep understanding of 4G/LTE networks, radio performance optimisation, and public safety communications
  • Proven experience analysing drive test logs, protocol traces, and network KPIs
  • Strong knowledge of LTE signalling and procedures, SIP protocols, Push-to-Talk (PTT) services, SRTP and DTLS troubleshooting, and LTE parameters and timers
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Accuver, Nemo, TEMS, Actix, and Wireshark
  • Experience working with Nokia RAN solutions
  • Ability to communicate complex technical findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach
  • Experience with LTE-based public safety or mission-critical communications networks is desirable
  • Knowledge of Ericsson, Huawei, or Parallel Wireless technologies is desirable
  • Familiarity with 3GPP and ETSI standards is desirable
  • Experience managing third-party vendors and suppliers is desirable
  • Understanding of project delivery methodologies and network transformation programmes is desirable
  • BPSS security clearance required
Responsibilities:
  • Analyse UE logs, network traces, and protocol captures to identify performance issues and service degradation
  • Troubleshoot LTE networks end to end, including SIP signalling, Push-to-Talk (PTT), SRTP, and DTLS services
  • Analyse drive test logs and network protocol traces to determine the root causes of defects and underperforming KPIs
  • Investigate systematic issues affecting ESN performance and customer experience
  • Use data from UE application events and Layer 1–3 logs, drive testing and Wireshark traces, eNodeB and Core Network signalling, OTT protocol traces, coverage, capacity and OSS performance data, and network change records
  • Collaborate with engineering, delivery, and vendor teams to define and implement corrective actions
  • Support the development of performance optimisation strategies, best practices, and network improvements
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise on ESN-related performance issues

Were partnering with a leading telecommunications organisation at the forefront of critical national infrastructure to recruit an ESN Specialist – RAN. This role supports the optimisation and performance of a high-profile Emergency Services Network, helping maintain service availability and user experience for mission-critical communications. Youll work within a specialist RAN Performance & Optimisation team and collaborate with engineering, delivery, and vendor teams. The position is based in London or Bristol on a hybrid basis, for a six-month contract, with an ASAP start. Were looking for a proactive problem solver who can work independently, influence decisions, manage stakeholders, and drive measurable network performance improvements. The opportunity may suit an experienced RAN Performance Engineer, RAN Optimisation Specialist, LTE Performance Consultant, or Mobile Network SME.
