Head of Data Platform

Salary: £68,000 - 108,000 per year

Requirements:

• Extensive knowledge of modern database technologies, including Snowflake and relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL
• Broad knowledge of software development techniques, processes, methods, and best practices
• Proficiency with various programming languages
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams toward successful project delivery
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders
• Proactive, solution-oriented problem-solving ability
• Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Knowledge of application test automation products, processes, and best practices
• Proven experience and strong understanding of Agile development and conventional methods
• Strong strategic decision-making and long-term planning abilities
• Good general business acumen
• Experience with insurance and reinsurance systems and data
• Knowledge of technologies such as Python and PowerBI
• Proven track record of delivering data programmes in the insurance space
• A bachelors degree and 10 to 15 years of related experience in software development, architecture design, project management, and business analysis
• Significant management experience
• Prior experience in financial services, specifically insurance, is highly beneficial

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the delivery of strategic data programmes, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and quality standards
• Work closely with Data Governance, business stakeholders, and key partners to drive the programme and roadmap of change
• Monitor delivery progress and identify and mitigate risks and issues as they arise
• Prepare and present updates and reports to senior management and stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies and best practices throughout the project lifecycle
• Oversee appropriate resourcing across cross-functional teams and external vendors
• Source and manage vendor partners
• Ensure deliveries align with our strategic vision and roadmap
• Ensure compliance between business strategies, enterprise transformation activities, and technology directions
• Set strategies, policies, standards, and practices
• Drive effective and timely development of new and enhanced systems and technologies
• Monitor all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle and Production Support service levels
• Provide high-level technical support for data-related technologies
• Work with customers, IT managers, and management to identify opportunities to use technology to improve business processes, particularly in data management
• Prepare business cases, including financial analyses of potential new technologies, systems, and applications
• Evaluate solutions based on our strategic needs and resource availability
• Oversee business analysis, development work, and quality assurance for assigned systems and technologies
• Collaborate effectively at all levels to prepare strategic plans
• Ensure system requests align with our objectives and budgets
• Contribute to the development of IT development standards, policies, processes, and procedures
• Review technology needs of supported business functions relative to new technological developments and trends
• Participate in vendor and strategic partner evaluations and monitor relationships on an ongoing basis
• Prepare and manage the department budget, including P&L forecasting, operational and capital expenditures, contract negotiations, and invoice processing
• Lead and manage the team through recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition
