EdTech Software Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £58,000 - 98,000 per year
Requirements:- We are looking for an experienced software engineer with a degree or equivalent qualification in a Computing-related subject.
- We need experience working collaboratively within a software engineering team.
- We need a strong understanding of modern software development practices and the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Familiarity with web development frameworks such as FastAPI and React, as well as automated testing and CI/CD, is important.
- You should be a creative and proactive problem solver who enjoys working collaboratively with users and stakeholders to understand their needs and develop high-quality solutions.
- You should be organised, able to manage your own workload and deadlines, and comfortable working with colleagues at all levels in a diverse academic environment.
- Experience deploying and managing Linux production systems would be an advantage.
- Experience developing software for education would be an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills are essential.
- An enthusiasm for teaching, training and supporting others is essential.
- Experience of university teaching or mentoring would be desirable.
- Knowledge of educational practices would be desirable.
- We design, develop and operate innovative software that supports teaching, learning and assessment across the Department.
- We maintain and continuously improve production systems.
- We work closely with academic and professional services colleagues and students to understand their needs and deliver effective, reliable solutions.
- We use modern software engineering practices to build and support our systems.
- We contribute directly to education through teaching, tutorials, mentoring and student project supervision.
- We provide guidance and training to colleagues on the use of educational technologies.
- We collaborate with colleagues across the College and contribute to the wider digital education community.
- We explore and evaluate new technologies and approaches to educational technology.
- We use evidence and research to inform improvements.
- We contribute to sharing good practice and maintain our professional development.
- We support the teams continuous improvement and take part in relevant departmental activities.
