Cyber Security Operations Manager

Salary: £30,000 - 55,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need an experienced SOC Manager or Cyber Security Operations Manager with a strong leadership track record.
• We need deep expertise in incident response workflows, from detection and triage through containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident review.
• We need proven experience designing and running a mature 24/7 security monitoring program that reduces dwell time and improves detection coverage.
• We need hands-on experience delivering actionable threat intelligence, from collection and analysis to dissemination and integration into defensive controls.
• We need extensive background operating and tuning security platforms such as SIEM, EDR, NDR, and SOAR to maximise efficacy and reduce noise.
• We need experience managing third-party relationships, including MSSPs and technology vendors, while ensuring SLAs and deliverables are met.
• Experience with cloud security across AWS and Azure would be beneficial.

Responsibilities:

• We will lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing SOC analyst team.
• We will use the career framework to identify learning needs and map progression paths.
• We will own the full incident lifecycle, including detection, triage, escalation, containment, and resolution.
• We will run post-incident reviews and drive continual improvements through regular exercises.
• We will serve as the escalation point for alerts.
• We will prioritise and direct enhancements to monitoring coverage and detection rules across key technologies and threats.
• We will monitor emerging threats and techniques, integrate actionable intelligence into our security practices, and communicate key insights to relevant stakeholders.

We are a leading public organisation seeking an SOC Manager to design, implement, and continuously improve our Security Operations strategy so we can respond rapidly to cyber threats and incidents. This is an initially 6-month contract role based in Exeter and offered on a remote basis, with a day rate of £800 via Umbrella. We work in partnership with Certain Advantage, who support talent across the UK in Engineering, IT, Finance, and Marketing. The role sits within a strategic security environment where we align people, tools, and budget to strengthen our security posture and roadmap.
