AI & ML Engineer

Salary: £64,000 - 95,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need strong Python engineering skills, including FastAPI, testing, and typing, with experience in cloud-native development, preferably on GCP.
• We need hands-on experience with GCP Vertex AI or equivalent cloud-native AI/ML platforms such as AWS SageMaker or Azure ML, plus agent orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or ADK.
• We need a solid understanding of MLOps, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code with Terraform, experiment tracking, model registry, and monitoring.
• We need proven experience deploying and operating ML systems in production, including batch and real-time environments.
• We need familiarity with RAG architectures, prompt engineering, guardrails, and evaluation techniques.
• We need previous experience developing agentic capabilities such as agent skills, MCP servers, and tool usage.
• We need a strong grasp of security, privacy, and governance principles, including IAM, secrets handling, and PII handling.
• We need effective communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• We need an interest in evaluating new AI technologies and contributing to technical discussions around build, buy, or configure decisions.
• We need a Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or demonstrable relevant experience.
• Nice to have: knowledge of vector databases and retrieval strategies.
• Nice to have: experience with recommender systems and ranking models.
• Nice to have: familiarity with LLM evaluation tools such as RAGAS, TruLens, LangSmith, or Arize.
• Nice to have: a working understanding of cloud networking and platform infrastructure.
• Nice to have: experience in e-commerce or retail environments.

Responsibilities:

• We design and implement agentic systems using techniques such as RAG, grounding, prompt engineering, and orchestration on a GCP-first stack.
• We build and maintain production ML pipelines and services for non-GenAI use cases, including recommender systems, customer segmentation models, and marketing optimisation modules.
• We develop APIs and microservices for AI/ML solutions, ensuring security, scalability, and observability.
• We implement CI/CD for ML services, write infrastructure as code, and monitor for model and data drift and performance.
• We establish robust guardrails for safe AI usage, including prompt security, practical evaluation frameworks, and compliance with privacy regulations.
• We contribute to reusable components, documentation, and engineering best practices that improve AI/ML delivery across the organisation.
• We collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, front-end and back-end engineers, and product managers to deliver impactful solutions.
• We support the evaluation of new AI technologies, frameworks, and tooling, contributing ideas and recommendations for continuous improvement.
• We work across the full AI/ML engineering lifecycle, from discovery through deployment and monitoring.
