AI Engineer, Backend

Salary: £45,000 - 85,000 per year

Requirements:

• At least 3 years of experience as a Backend or Software Engineer, including shipping AI products or features, debugging production issues, and considering scale.
• Experience developing with Node.js or Python and writing clean, maintainable code using established patterns and best practices.
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL fundamentals, particularly PostgreSQL and ORM libraries such as Sequelize or TypeORM; ability to write and optimize queries and design schemas.
• Demonstrated experience shipping production products using Claude or similar AI coding tools, including effective prompting and critical review of generated code.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and produce clear documentation and updates.
• Strong remote collaboration and asynchronous communication skills, with a track record of proactively sharing status, blockers, and decisions in distributed teams.
• Commitment to quality processes, code review, testing, deployment, operational responsibility, and secure coding and data-handling practices.
• Personal accountability for service excellence, and consideration of resource utilization, infrastructure costs, and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

• Work with Product Managers, Frontend Engineers, Designers, and QA professionals to understand requirements, scope features, and create seamless experiences.
• Use AI coding tools such as Claude to accelerate development by generating code, boilerplate, and scaffolding, and critically review generated code before shipping.
• Build and ship AI products, workflows, and agents.
• Provide technical input throughout the software development lifecycle, from discovery through deployment, including architecture, design feedback, and deployment strategy.
• Develop robust features, APIs, databases, and infrastructure; find and fix bugs while maintaining quality standards.
• Own features end to end: design, develop, test, deploy, monitor, and iterate, using rigorous testing and customer-focused engineering.
• Communicate with cross-functional teams, explain technical constraints, translate requirements into solutions, and keep stakeholders aligned.
• Unblock teams by answering questions, debugging issues, and proposing solutions to ambiguous problems.

The posted salary range is $60,000–$130,000 USD; final pay is based on experience, skills, and location, and offers are localized to the employees country.
