Enterprise Architect - Digital Engineering/Software Engineering

Salary: £93,600 - 95,510 per year

Requirements:

• Active SC clearance is mandatory; DV is desirable.
• Strong background in Enterprise / Business Architecture, typically around 5 years.
• Defence or aerospace delivery experience, including MOD, Defence Digital, primes, or other regulated environments.
• Exposure to architecture frameworks such as TOGAF / ArchiMate or equivalent.
• Experience architecting software development environments across the system engineering lifecycle.
• Strong stakeholder management experience with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, Engineers, IT teams, end users, and suppliers.
• A degree in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or Maths.
• Desirable: Microsoft Azure experience and/or certification.
• Desirable: DevSecOps / CI/CD exposure.
• Desirable: Containerisation experience such as Docker / Kubernetes.
• Desirable: Agile delivery / SAFe experience.
• Desirable: Analytics tooling such as Power BI and data warehousing concepts.
• Desirable: Security certifications such as CISSP and/or professional recognition such as Chartered Engineer.

Responsibilities:

• Own and maintain high-level and low-level designs (HLD/LLD).
• Provide technical architecture leadership across people, process, and technology within software engineering.
• Integrate Software Factory capabilities into the broader Digital Engineering environment.
• Support architecture governance, security, compliance, and Secure by Design principles.
• Translate enterprise policies and risk requirements into solution design standards, governance models, and compliance frameworks.
• Lead and author RFIs and RFQs and support supplier engagement.
• Drive reuse, best practice, innovation, and continuous improvement across value streams.
• Communicate architectural vision, progress, risks, and obligations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

We are recruiting for an Enterprise Architect to support digital engineering and software engineering activities across sensitive Ministry of Defence and aerospace programmes. This contract role is based in Reading, Berkshire and offers a rate of up to £91.75/hour. The role focuses on integrating a Software Factory solution within a wider Digital Engineering environment, enabling secure and compliant delivery across the full lifecycle, including Digital Thread and Digital Twin outcomes.
