Data Scientist II, Alexa for Shopping Science UK - London

Salary: £60,000 - 110,000 per year

Requirements:

• Masters degree or above in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related science field
• Experience in an ML or data scientist role with a large technology company
• Experience with machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance
• Experience with data scripting languages (e.g. SQL, Python, R) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, or Matlab)
• Experience effectively communicating complex concepts through written and verbal communication
• Experience in defining and creating benchmarks for assessing GenAI model performance
• Experience with AWS services including S3, Redshift, Sagemaker, EMR, Kinesis, Lambda, and EC2
• Experience working on multi-team, cross-disciplinary projects

Responsibilities:

• Analyze, model, and optimize AI technologies that shape the future of shopping experiences
• Measure and improve multimodal conversational systems, especially those based on large language models, information retrieval, recommender systems, and knowledge graphs
• Handle Amazon-scale use cases with significant customer impact
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product partners locally and abroad
• Design experiments, analyze results, and launch new features, products, and systems
• Perform hands-on analysis and modeling of large multimodal datasets to generate insights
• Use statistical methods, machine learning, and data mining techniques to create scalable solutions
• Design and analyze A/B tests and experiments with statistical rigor
• Develop metrics, dashboards, and reporting frameworks to monitor performance, engagement, and business impact
• Build predictive models and conduct deep-dive analyses to improve customer experience, conversion, and satisfaction
• Collaborate with Applied Scientists and Engineers to translate analytical insights into production systems
• Establish automated processes for large-scale data analysis, ETL pipelines, metric generation, and experimentation frameworks
• Communicate results and insights to technical and non-technical audiences through presentations, written reports, and data visualizations

We are the Alexa for Shopping Science team based in London, working alongside around 150 engineers, designers, and product managers to shape the future of AI-driven shopping experiences at Amazon. We work across the full Alexa for Shopping experience, from agentic shopping features such as price alerts and automated purchasing, to understanding multimodal user queries and generating answers that combine text, image, audio, and video. We also produce deep research reports that combine web and Amazon catalog data to provide detailed, personalized shopping guidance. We use and advance state-of-the-art techniques in Natural Language Processing, gen AI, Information Retrieval, Machine/Deep Learning, and Data Mining, and we validate our work by actively participating in internal and external scientific communities.
