Senior Platform Engineer - Birmingham

Salary: £100,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements:

• Proven ability of strong team skills, including working in a multi-disciplinary team
• Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate issues to technical and non-technical audiences
• Significant expertise in use of multiple configuration management, infrastructure provisioning, and automation tools
• Fluency in at least one of the following: Powershell, Bash, Python, Ruby, Go, or Groovy
• Experience designing, building, testing, automating, monitoring, and supporting significant components within a modern digital service platform
• Experience producing designs that are scalable, resilient, efficient, secure, cost-effective, and minimize lock-in
• Experience contributing to technical decisions, architecture, estimation, product planning, and advocating for MVP
• Experience implementing modern Continuous Delivery processes for releasing software to production
• Experience applying industry best practices across infrastructure and application components (security, elasticity, performance)
• Proficiency using AWS public cloud platforms to solve business problems
• Experience applying configuration management, infrastructure provisioning, and container orchestration tooling
• Experience using modern version control systems including git
• Ability to debug complex problems across multiple servers, services, and tools
• Active Security Clearance is required
• Third level or equivalent qualification in a related discipline is desirable
• Mid-level certification with a public cloud provider (AWS/Azure) is preferred
• Experience managing, mentoring, and coaching junior staff is highly valued

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design of significant components of a modern digital service platform, including automation, build, deployment, and support
• Work alongside colleagues in engineering, testing, consulting, product management, and security to build and deploy high-quality software
• Ensure the latest technologies are employed appropriately to extract maximum user and business benefit while aligning with industry standards
• Support colleagues and facilitate an inclusive DevOps culture within the team
• Drive conversations and decisions to ensure services are scalable, secure, reliable, and performant
• Manage services through Live Operation, ensuring availability and performance once users start interacting with the system
• Proactively coach and mentor more junior members of the team as a role model for our values
• Continuously learn about new technologies and approaches to improve services and develop specialisms
