Senior/Lead Backend Engineer

Salary: £59,000 - 99,000 per year

Requirements:

• 5–10 years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend and system architecture
• Strong expertise in Python
• Deep cloud platform experience with GCP, including deploying containerized applications using Docker and Cloud Run
• Proven track record working with high-frequency time-series data and ideally managing fleets of edge devices (IoT/Robotics)
• Experience designing and maintaining highly resilient, low-latency systems where uptime is critical
• Experience with C++ would be ideal
• Experience with Firebase, iOS, Swift, GPS, GNSS, IoT, and connected devices would be fantastic

Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of our backend and cloud platform practices and structure
• Implement methodologies and design the architecture from the ground up
• Establish our backend engineering culture
• Lead the architecture, design, and migration from our current Firebase setup to a robust, scalable GCP architecture capable of handling high-frequency time-series and image data from thousands of edge devices
• Work closely with Robotics and Computer Vision Engineers to build scalable, production-ready cloud APIs
• Establish foundational backend engineering practices, including CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment protocols from scratch
