Requirements:

• We are looking for an experienced Quality Engineer, Test Engineer, Automation Engineer or similar with strong commercial experience.
• We need strong software testing and automation experience.
• We require CI/CD experience.
• We need strong knowledge of Git; GitLab experience is highly desirable.
• We require commercial experience with Java and Spring.
• We need experience with automated testing frameworks and tools.
• We require understanding of TDD and/or BDD.
• We need strong test analysis and test design skills.
• We require experience with databases and test data management.
• We need experience with risk-based testing.
• We need excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• We require proven experience coaching or supporting development teams.
• We need Agile/Scrum experience.
• We need the ability to work across multiple areas of a product and adapt to changing priorities.

Responsibilities:

• We design and implement automated test solutions and frameworks.
• We embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
• We develop automated testing approaches aligned with TDD and BDD.
• We support CI/CD pipelines and automated quality gates.
• We apply risk-based testing and effective test design techniques.
• We analyse business requirements, processes and technical architectures to develop appropriate testing strategies.
• We ensure applications are designed with automation and testability in mind.
• We support manual testing where automation is not appropriate.
• We work closely with developers through collaboration and pair-programming.
• We coach and upskill engineering teams, promoting quality as a shared responsibility.
• We manage test data and testing collateral.
• We contribute across unit, system, functional and integration testing.
• We support non-functional testing, including performance, accessibility and security.
• We communicate testing risks, progress and outcomes to technical and business stakeholders.

We are hiring for a Quality Engineer to join a modernisation programme in Telford, working in a hybrid setup with 2 days per week onsite. This is a 6-month contract at up to £500 inside IR35, and BPSS clearance is required. The role is part of a Scrum team focused on modernising delivery practices, embedding quality from the outset, and driving greater automation across the software development lifecycle. We offer an excellent opportunity for someone with strong Java and automation experience to help shape quality engineering practices, improve test coverage, and coach engineering teams on best practice.
