Senior AI Software Engineer

Salary: £100,000 - 100,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need strong programming and software engineering skills, with experience using languages such as Python, Java, R, and C++.
• We need solid knowledge of machine learning and AI fundamentals, including supervised and unsupervised learning, neural networks, model evaluation, prompt engineering, and responsible AI practices.
• We need experience working with large and complex datasets, including data preprocessing, feature engineering, data quality assessment, vectorisation, and embeddings.
• We need experience building AI-powered capabilities into production applications, with a balance of experimentation, security, observability, maintainability, and customer impact.
• We need expertise in developer productivity tooling, infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and Ansible, CI/CD implementation, automated quality controls, and workflow optimisation.
• We need familiarity with cloud deployment on AWS, Azure, or GCP, including MLOps, cloud architecture, containerisation, model monitoring, and secure production deployment patterns.
• We need the ability to translate complex business and engineering challenges into practical AI solutions and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• We may assess risk and controls awareness, communication skills, stakeholder interaction, and relevant job-specific technical skills.

Responsibilities:

• We design, develop, and improve software using engineering methodologies that support our business, platform, and technology capabilities.
• We develop, integrate, and maintain AI-enabled software solutions and help build scalable, secure, production-ready AI systems and applications.
• We provide technical leadership, engineering expertise, and tooling oversight across the software delivery lifecycle.
• We work closely with AI Architects, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Product teams, and Engineering colleagues to deliver aligned solutions.
• We apply AI responsibly to modernise platforms, improve code quality, streamline delivery, and enhance developer experience.
• We deliver high-quality software solutions using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
• We ensure our code is scalable, maintainable, and optimised for performance.
• We collaborate cross-functionally to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration.
• We participate in code reviews and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
• We stay informed of technology trends and contribute to our technology communities.
• We adhere to secure coding practices, implement effective unit testing, and support reliable software design.
• We manage and mitigate risks, strengthen controls, and support governance across our work.
• We advise stakeholders, support technical planning and implementation, and help drive adoption of AI solutions.
