Lead Data Scientist
Job Description
Salary: £44,000 - 76,000 per year
Requirements:- Confirmed experience in leading data science projects in cybersecurity, fraud, or behavioural analytics.
- Deep expertise in Python, ML frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, and cloud platforms, preferably GCP.
- Strong grasp of anomaly detection, time-series modelling, and deep learning architectures.
- Experience with LLMs and generative AI in production environments is highly desirable.
- A passion for ethical AI, model governance, and secure ML operations.
- Excellent communication and customer engagement skills.
- An innovator and change agent who stays up to date with the latest trends and developments in data engineering and cyber security.
- Understanding of the emerging threats within Cyber Security is desirable.
- Own the delivery of security outcomes, including defining and evolving approaches to anomaly detection that balance performance, explainability, and operational risk.
- Lead a team of Data Scientists.
- Drive innovation in LLM-based security automation, including prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, and fine-tuning of models.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers to build scalable, secure, and production-ready ML pipelines on GCP.
- Partner with cyber defence, risk, and compliance teams to ensure models are explainable, ethical, and aligned with regulatory standards such as SOC2, SWIFT, and SOX.
- Contribute to the Data Science Community of Practice, helping shape best practices across the organisation.

This Lead Data Scientist role sits within our Chief Security Office Security Data and AI lab, working with Analytics and Data Engineering feature teams to help detect, mitigate, and prevent cyber threats using advanced AI and machine learning. The role is based in Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, or Bristol, with a full-time 35-hour hybrid working pattern of at least two days per week, or 40% of your time, in one of our office sites.
