Head of Engineering

Salary: £120,000 - 130,000 per year

Requirements:

• We are looking for a proven engineering leader with serious engineering leadership pedigree.
• We need someone with experience leading leaders within engineering functions in a complex, enterprise-scale environment.
• We need a track record of managing senior engineering managers across multiple disciplines and locations.
• We are looking for someone comfortable working across cloud environments, primarily AWS, with some Azure and Google Cloud exposure.
• We need experience balancing in-house teams, strategic vendors, and commercial platforms, including buy versus build decisions.
• Retail or B2C experience is a strong plus, though broad experience in a complex, large-scale environment is also valued.
• We need someone confident in decision-making and comfortable making calls independently.
• We value a genuine focus on culture, not only delivery metrics.
• We want someone who understands that AI is now part of modern engineering practice.

Responsibilities:

• We will ask you to lead engineering across Cloud Platforms, Frontend, SaaS Platforms, and Backend Engineering and Architecture as one connected function.
• You will manage engineering managers and functional leads, with around 60 to 70 people within your scope.
• You will help bring together three distinct tech cultures into one cohesive organisation.
• You will embed modern engineering practices and DevOps discipline, supported by meaningful metrics.
• You will help define where AI-enabled delivery fits within the business.
• You will work closely with Product, AI, and Data leadership to align capacity and strategy.
