Functional Test Engineer

Salary: £53,000 - 93,000 per year

Requirements:

• Were looking for a candidate with a Bachelors or Masters degree in computer science, electronics, telecommunications, or a related field.
• We prefer ISTQB certification, though it is not mandatory.
• The successful applicant must have a full, clean driving licence and their own car, as the role involves some travel.

• We require strong defect-reporting skills, including clear reproduction steps, evidence, and impact details.
• We require knowledge of test automation tools such as Selenium, Robot Framework, or Appium, and experience writing automated test scripts in Python or C# for sprint-level testing.
• Were looking for familiarity with test management and issue-tracking tools such as Jira, Jama, or Azure DevOps.
• The successful candidate should be able to analyse logs from embedded systems, Linux, or radio firmware.
• Knowledge of protocol testing, RF testing, and communication interfaces such as TCP/IP, UDP, Serial, or Bluetooth is a plus.
• Were looking for experience using Git, Bitbucket, or similar version control systems.

• Experience with performance, soak, or reliability testing is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities:

• We expect you to work as part of a software scrum team, verifying new features and changes during each sprint.
• You will read and understand requirements documentation provided by our Product Definition and Product Strategy teams.
• You will review user stories, acceptance criteria, and specifications to ensure they are clear and testable.
• You will contribute to test planning, execution, defect tracking, and reporting to stakeholders.
• You will design clear, thorough, traceable functional test cases and execute them across embedded devices, software components, and APIs.
• You will develop and execute automated test cases for our LTE and TETRA products.
• You will perform exploratory testing to uncover unexpected behaviours, usability issues, and edge cases.
• You will validate fixes and confirm regression risk areas after developer changes.
• You will analyse logs, system traces, and debug output to support accurate defect reporting.
• You will participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
• You will collaborate closely with developers to investigate issues, interpret logs, and reproduce complex defects.
• You will work with Product Owners to ensure acceptance criteria are complete and testable.
• You will provide clear, concise updates on test progress, risks, blockers, and readiness.
