Controls Engineer
Job Description
Salary: £45,000 - 55,000 per year
Requirements:- Bachelors degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a controls-based qualification
- Ability to develop and design code for PLCs and HMIs
- Ability to read and understand electrical and control schematics
- Good project management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to contribute ideas and new concepts to improve our products
- Develop and maintain our range of equipment using Allen Bradley PLCs Micro800, CompactLogix, and associated HMIs by writing well-structured PLC/HMI code
- Create function blocks in structured text and ladder logic, and carry our intuitive HMI style across all platforms
- Work with senior management to develop a clear control philosophy and, when agreed, a detailed FDS, leading to clear, concise software and maintained documentation
- Understand how to integrate systems into customers overall control systems using Ethernet and Modbus protocols
- Help troubleshoot software and hardware issues in the test department when required
- Report, communicate, and work with other departments as part of a team
- Plan and manage our own projects and work packages
- Commission and start up larger special projects when service needs assistance
- Provide Tier 3 software support to colleagues and customers when required
- Develop new PLC control system designs and maintain current software using electrical schematics and control philosophy/FDS
- Test electrical, electronic, and control systems
- Produce detailed design and programming for Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs
- Carry out on-site commissioning of special projects when required
