PHP Software Developer

Salary: £65,000 - 65,000 per year

Requirements:

• At least 3 years of commercial-grade PHP development experience, including work on large, high-volume transactional systems
• Passion for building PHP-based web applications, with a focus on APIs
• Experience with CakePHP or another MVC-based framework
• Knowledge of SOAP, GraphQL, and RESTful APIs
• Understanding of relational database design, normalization, and indexing
• Intermediate understanding of cloud computing techniques and best practices
• Ability to adapt quickly and willingness to learn new languages
• For senior candidates, enthusiasm for developer efficiency and smooth CI/CD pipelines
• E-commerce or shipping experience is an advantage but is not essential

Responsibilities:

• Work across our technology stack, including our core PHP/Linux/Apache application, MySQL databases, Python messaging systems, and cloud infrastructure
• Fix bugs and build new features
• Design scalable systems
• Improve infrastructure and deployment pipelines
• Work with our wider team to continuously improve the Shiptheory platform
• Depending on experience, review code, mentor other developers, contribute to technical decisions, and help shape our engineering practices and architecture
• Take ownership and contribute wherever needed as part of our small, solution-focused team
