AS400 Support Specialist

Requirements:

• Proven experience supporting IBM AS400 / IBM i environments.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and report writing.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and investigate complex operational issues.
• Experience within a manufacturing or operational environment would be advantageous.
• Strong AS400 / IBM i skills are essential.
• Confidence working independently while collaborating with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Investigate and resolve AS400 operational and system issues.
• Identify root causes of system and process failures.
• Produce reports, data extracts, and meaningful business insights.
• Write, maintain, and enhance reports and queries.
• Conduct data analysis, validation, and troubleshooting activities.
• Monitor critical business processes and scheduled jobs.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
• Develop long-term solutions that reduce reliance on manual workarounds and temporary fixes.
• Act as a specialist investigator for operational and system-related issues, working independently to identify root causes, resolve problems, and recommend corrective actions.

We are recruiting an experienced AS400 Support Specialist to join our Industrial Lab Systems team on a temporary basis. This is an on-site opportunity in Caerphilly or Thornbury, working Monday to Friday with a choice of 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm hours. The role offers the chance to support business-critical operations and contribute to system and process improvements, with flexibility around working patterns and the opportunity to play a key role in driving sustainable solutions.
