Job Description

Salary: £54,000 - 57,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Hands-on delivery of Android applications according to the sprint backlog, often involving end-to-end leadership for a given feature or project
  • Expert in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
  • Ensure solutions are implemented that deliver genuine value to our users
  • Coordinate and instrument the overarching solution design in accordance with architectural vision and development strategy during the discovery phase of new projects
  • Perform a suitable degree of testing against a given solution before delivery
  • Raise technical constraints and dependencies to the Product Owner to align for the best solution
  • Define and track Engineering and Quality KPIs in collaboration with the Lead Engineer to ensure delivery is consistent and class-leading
  • Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform is desirable
Responsibilities:
  • Mentor new starters and less senior team members in the development of their roles
  • Coordinate design workshops and ensure all engineers contribute
  • Prepare for situations or discussions in advance where requested
  • Take accountability for your contribution towards the success of a given situation or discussion
  • Proactively bring formed decisions to Mobile Leads to reinforce ideas and ensure alignment
  • Step in to move situations or discussions forward when they start to stall
  • Respect the input of people in other roles in your work and conversations
  • Actively foster collaboration with peers in the team in the interest of quality and efficiency
  • Consider team goals when prioritising and making decisions
  • Invite input from more junior members of the team and create opportunities for them to get involved
  • Strive to be objective and reflect on your own biases when making decisions
  • Hold yourself accountable for decisions and outcomes
  • Identify and appropriately escalate perceived knowledge gaps of other team members and the team itself
  • Actively foster collaboration with peers across teams in the interest of knowledge-sharing and development
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering colleagues and Leads to meet sprint goals and ensure sprints are successful
  • Ensure that Security, Financial, Commercial and Business requirements are considered when discovering and sizing work
  • Insist on understanding customer value in your work
  • Ensure tasks are prioritised correctly by making data-led decisions where possible and by ensuring that dependencies are noted
  • Collaborate with product owners to ensure expectations are managed, delivering as required and helping to agree reasonable timescales for key outcomes
  • Take accountability for work meeting Engineering standards and team-level Definitions of Done and Definitions of Ready
  • Identify the need to collaborate with peers and other teams as necessary to understand and work towards outcomes
  • Present on the work delivered within an iteration to key stakeholders, clearly demoing the value in language that non-technical stakeholders can understand
  • Champion the continuous improvement of the team through retrospectives and other appropriate channels
  • Break stories down effectively, ensuring stories are small by design and each story delivers value
  • Challenge bloat and scope creep in favour of swift value delivery
  • Confidently open and lead discussions within the team
  • Provide honest and candid feedback when requested, taking care to include constructive criticism
  • Openly give recognition of individuals to the team and peers
  • Use 10% time to increase knowledge and capability in industry-relevant technologies and practices, and demo how it has been used
  • Actively prompt others to use their 10% time effectively and consistently
  • Share knowledge across teams through blogs, lightning talks, demos, and workshops
  • Play an active and leading role in all Scrum ceremonies in order to drive forward progression in sprints
  • Write clean and readable object-oriented code
  • Use the latest and most complex language features, making the best use of encapsulation and mutability
  • Have mastered the full knowledge of one platform and have a deep understanding of the other
  • Own and maintain the design and implementation of software architecture components by applying SOLID principles
  • Use Clean Architecture, modularisation, and MVVM to maintain a clean separation of concerns across the codebase
  • Drive unit test coverage expectations, create test doubles, and influence others to adopt and use TDD
  • Have a very good understanding of advanced Git commands
  • Have a full understanding of CI processes and tools
  • Have good knowledge of external tools that can be used to complete RCA of issues
  • Autonomously create new documentation for processes, features, and best practices
  • Collaborate with the Design team in creating and maintaining a design system
  • Consider security implications as part of day-to-day work and address issues raised by a security audit
