• We need a proven track record of managing complex relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
• We need someone who is comfortable working with board-level executives.
• We need experience drafting media lines and press statements that give the sector a clear, consistent voice.
• We would value a working knowledge of UK data centre market characteristics and business models, both domestic and international.
• We would value good familiarity with data centre operational functions and processes.
• We would value an understanding of the regulatory and policy environment for data infrastructure at UK and EU level.
• We require permission to work in the UK prior to the commencement of employment.

Responsibilities:

• We act as a trusted, knowledgeable and influential spokesperson and interlocutor across government, industry and the press.
• We identify emerging public policy issues relevant to data infrastructure, prioritise them and act on them appropriately.
• We alert the industry to new policy and market developments, research implications and collate evidence of potential impacts.
• We coordinate lobbying and campaign strategies for issues of most significant concern.
• We manage multiple dossiers relating to policy, compliance, reputation and markets, many of which remain active long term and may be technical in nature.
• We maintain close working relationships and share information with partner bodies and other data centre-focused NTAs.
• We produce externally facing explanatory material for non-technical readers.
• We produce industry-facing explanatory material to clarify complex policy instruments for the sector.
• We ensure techUK is seen as a trusted and key champion for the sector in the media.
• We maintain a permanent skills dialogue through partnerships, outreach and publications.
• We provide the secretariat function for the Data Centres Council, supporting strategic discussions on issues facing the sector.
• We report back to members regularly on activity and progress, including regular meetings and check-ins with members.
• We act as the sector association lead for the Climate Change Agreement (CCA) scheme, holding the relationship between the sector, the Environment Agency and the UK Government.
• We shape policy and media positions, strengthen industry influence, convene senior stakeholders and ensure the sectors priorities are reflected in national policy, press and industry debate.
• We deliver against commercial, membership and programme objectives.

We are techUK and this is a Head of Data Centres Programme role based in London with hybrid working and a flexible office policy. We offer a full-time, permanent position with a salary of £45,000 to £65,000 per annum based on experience, plus a discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits. The role champions our work for the UK data centre sector as a foundational part of the nations digital, economic and strategic infrastructure, representing a high-profile membership across wholesale colocation, hyperscale cloud providers, telecoms operators, technology partners and professional services.
