BMC Helix Discovery Engineer

Salary: £53,000 - 93,000 per year

Requirements:

• We need experience working within a BMC Discovery environment, whether as a consultant, contractor, or permanent employee.
• We need an excellent understanding of BMC Discovery at architectural and configurational level.
• Strong field experience is more important to us than certifications, although certifications are desirable.
• We need expert knowledge of BMC Discovery, including deployment, architecture, configuration best practice, and rationalisation principles.
• We need knowledge of communication and access protocols including SSH, HTTPS, DCOM, and REST API.
• We need knowledge of BMC Discovery connection protocols including UNIX Shell, WMI, and PowerShell.
• We need a strong understanding of BMC Discovery pattern language (TPL).
• We need a strong understanding of the BMC Discovery data model and query language.
• We need administrative knowledge of Linux, Windows, virtualisation, databases, networking, and directory services.
• Desirable skills include Python, DevOps tools and practices such as Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Ansible Tower.
• Desirable skills also include virtualisation platforms such as VMware and OpenStack, generic SQL, containerisation solutions, and access management tools such as CyberArk.

Responsibilities:

• We lead architecture and network flow management project activities and report progress to the Discovery team manager.
• We perform recurring platform health checks and use the results to shape new project work.
• We collaborate with the wider team on architecture direction, enhancements, and fixes.
• We build and maintain key stakeholder relationships to deliver project outcomes.
• We understand external non-BMC tools and processes that are critical to project delivery.
• We provide clear weekly progress updates across multiple concurrent project streams.
• We improve and redefine process activities where applicable.
• We implement automation to improve efficiency and delivery time.
• We research new technologies to enhance the discovery service.
• We provide L2/L3 support for incidents, changes, and requests.

We are a leading global investment bank in the banking and financial services sector, specifically corporate and institutional banking. This is a London-based contract role with 50% onsite working, initially for 6 months with a view to extend, and it is inside IR35 on a competitive rate. The role is approximately 80% project-focused and 20% BAU, working on our global BMC Helix Discovery deployment as part of a team focused on architecture, network flows, rationalisation, and service improvement.
