Operations Manager – Pet Resort

Job Description

Are You the Manager Everyone Calls When Something Isn't Working?

The schedule falls apart. Someone calls you.

An employee isn't performing. You're asked to handle it.

A customer is unhappy. You fix it.

A process makes absolutely no sense, so you find a better way.

Something unexpected happens and, while everyone else is discussing the problem, you're already figuring out what needs to happen next.

And somehow, you're still the "Assistant Manager."

Maybe it's time for a bigger role.

The Wags Club is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to serve as the day-to-day operational partner to our General Manager at our luxury dog daycare and boarding resort in West Los Angeles.

$70,500–$75,000 annual salary, depending on experience

Monthly performance bonus

Medical, Dental, And Vision Benefits

Bring your dog to work at no cost

And no, you don't necessarily need professional pet-care experience.

We're Looking for the Manager, Not the Industry.

Your Background Might Be

Hospitality.

Restaurants.

Pet care.

Retail.

Fitness.

Senior living.

Healthcare.

Customer service.

Or something we haven't thought of.

What interests us is whether you've become the person people rely on to make an operation work.

What This Role Really Is

The Wags Club has a General Manager.

We're not looking for another one.

We're looking for a strong operational second-in-command who can take significant ownership of what happens throughout the resort every day.

The General Manager will remain responsible for the location as a whole. Your focus will be making sure the day-to-day operation actually executes.

People.

Staffing.

Training.

Accountability.

Communication.

Client service.

Dog care.

Processes.

Standards.

Facilities.

And all the unexpected things that don't fit neatly into anybody's job description.

What You'll Be Expected to Do

You'll

  • Oversee day-to-day resort operations
  • Provide leadership and direction to employees and Team Leads
  • Coach, train, develop, and hold employees accountable
  • Help build a stronger supervisory and leadership structure
  • Identify problems before they become bigger problems
  • Find practical ways to make the operation more efficient and consistent
  • Make staffing and workflow decisions
  • Improve communication between different areas and shifts
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance management, and discipline
  • Resolve client concerns professionally
  • Oversee Front Office and dog-care operations
  • Support revenue and sales goals
  • Manage inventory, ordering, cash controls, and vendor relationships
  • Help maintain the facility and operational equipment
  • Make decisions independently within your authority
  • Keep the General Manager informed without requiring the General Manager to make every decision for you

What Will Get Our Attention

A résumé showing progressively greater responsibility.

Examples of employees you've developed.

Processes you've improved.

Problems you've solved.

Teams you've made better.

Situations where you took ownership without waiting for someone above you to tell you exactly what to do.

We're Looking For Someone Who Is

  • Highly self-motivated
  • Organized and decisive
  • Strong at managing people
  • Comfortable holding employees accountable
  • Resourceful
  • Calm under pressure
  • Good at prioritizing
  • Willing to make decisions
  • Comfortable admitting when something needs to be escalated
  • Interested in understanding why something isn't working—not merely complaining that it isn't
  • Capable of being a strong partner to a General Manager
  • Ready for significant responsibility

About The Dogs...

There are quite a few.

If you come from outside pet care, we'll teach you how our business works.

You'll learn daycare, boarding, feeding, medication, grooming, dog safety, Front Office operations, and how all of those pieces interact.

You'll need to genuinely enjoy dogs and be comfortable working around dogs of every size.

You'll also need to be willing to get out of the office.

The best Operations Manager here will understand what employees throughout the resort actually do because they've spent time alongside them, observed the operation, asked questions, and learned it.

Your job isn't to become another hourly attendant.

Your job is to become the manager who makes the hourly operation better.

And Yes, Sometimes the Phone Rings After Hours.

We're a 24-hour operation.

Dogs remain in our care overnight, 365 days a year.

We have overnight employees and work hard to build a team capable of handling routine situations without calling management.

But occasionally something serious happens that requires a manager.

We're looking for someone who understands that being part of the leadership team of a 24-hour operation sometimes means responsibility doesn't fit perfectly between two clock times.

If You've Been Waiting for Someone to Give You More Responsibility...

We are.

If you're already doing more than your title suggests and you're ready for a management position where you're expected to lead, decide, improve, and take ownership, we'd like to see your resume.

$70,500–$75,000 + monthly performance bonus + benefits.

We're actively interviewing.
